What if the jobs that AI creates, are ones that nobody wants?

What if these jobs are low paying, lack security and involve being exposed to traumatic materials?

This is already happening in countries like Kenya, Uganda, the Philippines, Venezeula and India. 

OpenAI and others use services like Sama, that find low wage workers paying them as little as $2/hour.

These AI labelers and moderators have very little job security. they’re encouraged to finish jobs quicker, only to have their contracts ended as a reward. Oh, and sometimes they get some Kentucky fried chicken and a coke as a bonus.

Many of these workers have had to seek out therapy due to the graphic imagery and content they moderate. They still suffer and struggle to forget what they’ve seen.

AI companies that are spending and losing billions, are dependent on what is essentially slave labor. These same companies tell us millions of jobs will be replaced, but that some new jobs will be created. What they don’t like to talk about, is what the majority of AI jobs are today.

These AI toolmen do not talk about the scaling of low wage labor when they talk about super intelligence and their vision of the future. They do not talk about these workers when they speak of their company’s success or achievements. These workers are largely unseen with no real rights, voice or future.

There is a huge disparity between the hundred million dollar job offers companies like Meta is doling out, vs the thousands of low paying jobs that fuel their AI initiatives.
